Construction of a $75 million new primary school in fast-growing Aura will soon be underway after the State Government announced the successful contractor for the project.

Education Minister Grace Grace revealed Monday that FK Gardner & Sons Pty Ltd was the successful contractor to build the first stage of the primary school at Caloundra South, expected to open in January, 2022.

“The school will be located at the corner of Park Avenue and Nirimba Drive in the Aura Development precinct, supporting the existing Baringa State Primary School and Baringa State Secondary College (opening in 2021),” the Minister said.

“This school will not only provide students with a world-class education but construction will ensure local tradies can continue to work as we recover from COVID-19.

“The $74.8 million primary school for Caloundra South will cater to the strong population growth in the Caloundra South Priority Development Areas.”

Stage One will include an administration block, library, covered area and kiosk, prep learning areas, junior learning areas, sports as well as music and assembly space.

FKG Group Managing Director Nick Gardner said the team was excited to be taking on the Aura project, as well as two others at North Maclean (Greenbank) and Coomera.

“As a proud Queensland and family owned construction and engineering business, we are very pleased to be awarded the contracts for the Caloundra South, Coomera Special and North Maclean (Greenbank) schools,” Mr Gardner said.

“Adding these projects to our pipeline is great news and gives us the chance to create further opportunities for local subcontractors and to support our local communities.”

Aura, being developed by Stockland, is a master-planned new city that will be the size of Gladstone once completed.

More than 20,000 homes will eventually be built to accommodate 50,000 new residents.

More than 700 hectares have been allocated to conservation areas and parks, a network of cycle ways will stretch for over 200km and more than 20 new educational facilities, including a university, are proposed within its boundaries.
