His team has mastered Asian street food and bistro fare and now local restauranteur Tony Kelly believes it has discovered the perfect pie, which will be available at his latest venture, the refurbished Eudlo General Store.

Mr Kelly, along with his business partner Dirk Long and hospitality industry stalwart Luke Stringer, are behind the redevelopment of the store that has served the local community since 1925.

“I’m really excited by this new venue,” Mr Kelly said.

“I love Eudlo, and Dirk is a former resident of the town and he’s always had his eye on redeveloping the building,” he said.

“He wants to give it a modern twist while still providing the essential general store services, including locally sourced produce, freshly baked goods, ice, swap and go gas, firewood and hay.

“What I work on with my hospitality ventures is to ensure they are all famous for at least one thing.

“For example at Rice Boi it’s curry and beer, Market Bistro is famous for its wine as well as service and bistro style food and after discovering the recipe for the ‘Holy Grail’ of pies, I am sure the Eudlo General Store will be famous for great coffee and mastering the simplicity of beautiful house-made pies.

“We have been working on perfecting the pastry for the pies for quite a while and I really believe it’s the best pie I have ever tasted.

Restauranteur Tony Kelly believes his team has discovered the recipe for the perfect pie.

“The base has a nice texture and crunch and the top is flaky like a croissant while the inside will be filled with delicious sticky beef cheeks slow cooked in red wine.

“We’ll also have other amazing pies including chicken, leak and baby peas as well as lamb and rosemary which all be available in traditional as well as family size to take away.”

Dirk Long said the second stage of the redevelopment would include a curated outdoor dining area, featuring a large rotisserie and wood fired pizza oven, which was due to open in early 2022.

“We are aiming to have the outdoor area open from Friday to Sunday night and will be ideal for families and friends to get together for some wood fired pizza or a slice or two from the pig on the spit over a cold beer while listening to live music,” Mr Long said.

“Over the years, the Eudlo General Store has been an essential meeting place for people to catch up, buy some essentials, enjoy a bite to eat or even get married out the back.”

“We really feel we’ve done the building and its heritage justice and we can’t wait for the local community to enjoy what we have to offer.”

The Eudlo General Store will have an ever-changing breakfast and lunch menu including daily baked treats and will be open seven days a week from 7am until 5pm.

Up to 18 locals will be employed full and part-time at the store, when it opens in mid-November.
